Before I begin on my first book review, I’d like to offer a few thoughts.
I have been trying to find an outlet for writing for a while. Starting a blog has always been something I’ve wanted to do, but as you can see, it has been sporadic effort at best. Most days, getting through the newspaper proves to be as much as I can handle, much less getting through the book I happen to be reading at the moment. Sitting down to write is always last on my list. This is a problem because aspiring writers need to write — just as aspiring athletes need to play the game and aspiring orators need to speak. In the words of Epictetus, “first say to yourself what you would be, then do what you must do.” I’d like to be a writer, for writing is far and away the best way to learn.
Thus, furthering my own education in politics is my goal here. Perhaps my writings can be of some use to others who are searching for their next book to read, or for those who want to know the gist of a title without jumping all the way in.
My goal, here stated, is to average a book a week. Here goes.
